A recent book buy brought with it three small illustrated volumes from the Fur Information and Fashion Council. They are not bound as conventional books, but are simply glued at the top edge like notepads. Once there was a time when nobody thought there was anything wrong with killing exotic animals for the sole purpose of making strange clothing from their skins, and we should not forget that. I have selected from each volume the most interesting examples. Click on preview for a full-size image. |

The motif for 1965 is The Modern Woman. Fashion models in furs are set down in industrial environments and described as being intelligent because they are interested in such things, and sensible because they want to look good in furs while doing so. |

The motif for 1966 is ostensibly derived from famous artists and paintings, but the connection is sometimes hard to see. Models appear to be posed similarly to the subjects of paintings by artists as varied as Picasso and Bosch. |

The motif for 1967 is Mod, with fewer conventional long coats, flashier patterns and more unusual source material. This is the first time men's coats are included, but most of them are fairly conventional in appearance. |
